I read Espenson’s books and loved them both. And this is one of my favorite essays out of the last. I had to read it again of course ;>

Finding Serenity and Serenity found are by Jane Espenson (wrote for Firefly and Buffy) collections of essays about the Firefly verse.

Also even better are Firefly:the Official companion vol 1 and 2 and Serenity the official companion. They have the original scripts.
